The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal Intraocular Lens (IOL) is the latest innovation in cataract treatment, providing exceptional results for cataract patients like never before. Cataract, Glaucoma & Retina Consultants of East Texas is now offering the revolutionary AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL for cataract and presbyopia patients.

Trifocal IOLs provide an excellent combination of far, near, and intermediate vision, while reducing the need for glasses after cataract surgery, with better clarity of vision than with traditional multifocal IOL’s.

What is the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL?

The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL is the first and only FDA approved trifocal IOL in the United States. The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL provides clear all-range vision after cataract removal, likely with little need for glasses.
AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL
The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL works by bending light rays and focusing them on the back of the eye. By using a trifocal lens design, patients can see with a full range of vision.

What is the Difference Between the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL and Monofocal IOLs?

Monofocal intraocular lenses are designed to provide vision at one distance. A patient may see clearly up close, far away, or at an intermediate distance.
Since monofocal IOLs provide vision at one distance, patients must wear glasses to see well at distances.

The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL is a trifocal lens, intended to focus vision at far, near and intermediate ranges, all likely without glasses.

Are You a Good Candidate for the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL?

You’re qualified for the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL if:

  • You have a cataract diagnosis, and strongly desire to stop using glasses after cataract surgery, and if you have no serious ocular pathology which reduces your vision.
  • After cataract surgery, you want to read, use a computer, drive, swim, and enjoy other hobbies with little need for contact lenses or prescription glasses.

You are generally a good candidate for the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL but the only way to know is to have a cataract screening with us at Cataract, Glaucoma & Retina Consultants of East Texas.

What Should You Expect During Surgery When Getting an AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL?

AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOLs are implanted during cataract surgery, which is an outpatient procedure.

Prior to cataract surgery, your surgeon will use eye drops to dilate your pupil. They will then use a local anesthetic to numb the area and prevent pain.

After surgery, your ophthalmologist may prescribe medication or eye drops to reduce inflammation and avoid eye infection.

What are the Benefits of the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL?

The benefits of AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOLs during cataract surgery include:

  • All-range vision, which minimizes or eliminates the need to wear glasses for most patients.
  • Proprietary Enlighten® Optical Technology to optimize your intermediate vision without jeopardizing distance and near vision. The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL is the only lens that has been specially designed with this in mind.
  • The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL can also correct astigmatism, a condition that occurs when the cornea is irregularly shaped, resulting in blurred vision. It’s a common issue that affects a large percentage of people with cataracts.
  • The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL enables excellent vision in a variety of lighting conditions, including daylight, low light, dim light, and bright light.
  • Patients with the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL aren’t as bothered by glare around bright lights compared to other multifocal IOLs.
  • The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL is made using a material that filters both ultraviolet rays and blue light. This protects the eyes from sun damage and overexposure to electronic screens.

Are There Any Side Effects with The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL?

All IOLs, including the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL, may have side effects. The following are the possible side-effects of the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL or any IOL:

  • Visual disturbances such as seeing halos around lights, glare, and starbursts. These symptoms make it hard to see well at night, drive, or complete tasks in low lighting.
  • The eye continues to age with time meaning that the need for glasses or contact lenses could return in the future.
